“Supported Decision Making”

Participants will learn about supported decision making in law, policy and in daily practice through seminars with lawyers, policy makers, community agencies and professionals, and by meeting with self-advocates, family members and support providers who have signed ‘representation agreements’.

Participants will be provided an in-depth exploration of the ‘Core Value Tool’, used to inform and influence the attitudes and behaviours of advisors and other professionals, as well as to provide self-advocates with more information and empowerment in their roles. Participants will then explore how Individualized Funding can give people the means to live their own lives.

“Mi Via: New Mexico’s Self-Directed Program”

Participants will visit Mi Via participants in their homes and communities. They will meet their families, allies, agency staff that guide Mi Via participants through the process, the fiscal manager that helps them with money, and staff personnel responsible for implementing Mi Via.

“Person-Centered Planning and Self-Determination”

Participants will learn what good person-centered planning looks like and what tools of self-determination are used to help self-advocates gain control of their lives. Participants will meet self-advocates from across Michigan in their homes and communities.
